Description

🌿 Monstera ‘Esqualeto’ Care Sheet

Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate medium light, but growth and fenestrations (leaf splits) are best in brighter conditions.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering:

  • Water when the top 5–7cm of soil is dry.

  • Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.

  • Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.

  • Reduce watering in cooler months.

Humidity:

  • Thrives in moderate to high humidity (55–75%).

  • Benefits from a humidifier or placement in a humid room.

Temperature:

  • Ideal range: 18–28°C.

  • Sensitive to cold; avoid temperatures below 15°C and drafts.

Soil:

  • Use a well-draining, airy aroid mix (potting soil, perlite, orchid bark, coco peat).

  • Supports healthy roots and promotes climbing growth.

Fertilizing:

  • Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

  • Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Support:

  • Provide a moss pole or trellis to encourage climbing and larger fenestrated leaves.

Pruning & Maintenance:

  • Remove yellow or damaged leaves at the base.

  • Prune stems to control size or encourage bushier growth.

Repotting:

  • Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

  • Best done in spring using a slightly larger pot.

Common Problems:

  • Yellow leaves → overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Slow growth or small leaves → insufficient light or low humidity.

  • Pests → spider mites, aphids, mealybugs.
