Description
Common Name: Alocasia Dragon Breath
Scientific Name: Alocasia ‘Dragon Breath’
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some gentle morning sun, but avoid harsh direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves. Low light may slow growth and reduce leaf vibrancy.
Water:
Keep soil consistently lightly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil begins to dry out. Avoid letting the plant dry out completely or sit in water.
Humidity:
Prefers high humidity. Thrives in humidity above 60%. Use a humidifier or humidity tray to maintain optimal conditions indoors.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix with coco coir or peat, perlite, and orchid bark. Good aeration is essential for root health.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 3–4 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding during winter.
Pruning:
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base. Older leaves naturally die off as new growth emerges.
Toxicity:
Toxic if ingested to pets and humans. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Dormancy:
May enter a semi-dormant phase in cooler months. Reduce watering slightly and avoid overwatering during this period.
