Description

🌿 Alocasia ‘Amazonica Bambino’ Care Sheet

Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate medium light, but bright indirect light keeps leaves vibrant.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the glossy, dark green leaves.

Watering:

  • Water when the top 2–4cm of soil is dry.

  • Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy.

  • Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.

  • Reduce watering slightly in cooler months.

Humidity:

  • Thrives in high humidity (60–80%).

  • Ideal for bathrooms, terrariums, or use with a humidifier.

  • Low humidity can cause brown leaf edges or curling.

Temperature:

  • Ideal range: 18–28°C.

  • Sensitive to cold; avoid temperatures below 15°C and cold drafts.

Soil:

  • Use a well-draining aroid mix (potting soil with perlite, orchid bark, and coco peat).

  • Good aeration prevents root rot and promotes healthy growth.

Fertilizing:

  • Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

  • Stop fertilizing during autumn and winter.

Pruning & Maintenance:

  • Remove yellow or damaged leaves at the base.

  • Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to maintain their glossy appearance.

Repotting:

  • Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

  • Best done in spring using a slightly larger pot.

Dormancy:

  • May go semi-dormant in winter, slowing growth.

  • Resume regular care in spring.

Common Problems:

  • Yellow leaves → overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Brown tips → low humidity or inconsistent watering.

  • Pests → spider mites, mealybugs, thrips.
