Description
Common Name: Philodendron Gloriosum
Scientific Name: Philodendron gloriosum
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate medium light, but growth may slow and leaf size may be reduced. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the velvety leaves.
Water:
Allow the top 2–4 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away. Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy, as it is prone to root rot.
Humidity:
Prefers high humidity. Thrives in humidity above 60%. Higher humidity enhances leaf size, texture, and overall health.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix with coco coir or peat, perlite, and orchid bark. As a creeping (crawling) philodendron, it benefits from a wide pot rather than a deep one.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in winter.
Pruning:
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves as needed. Minimal pruning required due to its crawling growth habit.
Toxicity:
Toxic if ingested to pets and humans. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Growth Habit:
A crawling (terrestrial) philodendron that grows horizontally along the soil surface rather than climbing. Best grown in rectangular or wide planters.
